Since I started that whole rap on Journey it got me thinking of the whole arena /stadium rock era.Me I'm a club or theater guy but when I was a 20 something Bill Graham put on some fantastic shows that while in Oakland/Alameda Stadium for the most part they worked. The first and all from memory and no search engines here was Commander Cody, The Beach Boys and the Dead.Next up Grateful Dead and The Who.WE now have a real big one w/ Jessie Colin Young,Joe Walsh and Barnstorm ,The Band(not so sure) then CSN&Y all together then I believe acoustic then back again. For my last show in Oakland I forget the opener,Santana,Peter Tosh then come 3-4 work horse helicopters over the stadium dropping ping pong balls and blow up dolls for all the while everyone was looking up The Rolling Stones took the stage and rammed into Start Me Up.As for the arena guys like AC/DC, Foreigner,Styx,Reo not for me I was classic 70's all the way and way big on British blues bands like Savoy Brown,TYA,Humble Pie,Cream,John Mayall, Procol Harum, original Fleetwood Mac w/ Peter Green and Mountain on the U.S. side.

i dont want to say i am jealous but i am. i was fifteen when jerry died and eventually with him the grateful dead, that aside quality music was hard to come by and still is. i feel bad for the newer generations who are stuck with bands that are created by producers for a simple payday and hope for all of our sakes that this terrible mold gets broken. a perfect example is the red hot chili peppers, they used to be wild and quite entertaining and now all of their songs are cookie cutter bullshit written about california with teenagers seen as their major audience. off mt soapbox now.
